                                                                                                               HORSES IN PROGRESS

One of our goals, here at Double B, is to start up an exercise program for the horses.  In this program our hope is to begin ground work on the younger horses and to do refresher courses for the adult horses.  In doing so we will have a much better idea of each horses capabilities and keep a progress report on each individual horse that you, the public, can read and follow their progress as well.  In doing this we are in hopes that it will draw more people to the rescue to adopt more of these wonderful animals. As soon as the roundpen is up we will begin working each horse for 15 minutes to a half hour each day, depending on the horse and its issues.  This is more than enough for these horses who have already been through so much trauma already.

Misty:  Jess, our girl from France, has been riding Misty, as well as many others at the rescue.  She is an awesome young
girl with a great love for horses and she has a wonderful ability to bond with each of them.  She rides Misty  to give her a chance to exercise and get out of her paddock for a while.

Quinn:   Jess has been playing with Quinn some, taking him onthe lead line and running him and what a pair they make.  the run and play and Quinn watches Jess's every move and responds instantly to her stopping and starting and quick turns.  They are a riot to watch.  Jess has also done a little driving with Quinn in  a make shift harness of spare parts from the tack room and with good results.
Buffalo Bill:
May 22, 2009 - Buffalo Bill started his first day of training today.  We started with small circles on the lunge line, at a walk only.  He is still too young to stress those tiny joints.  He did very well considering it was his first time.  He is a very smart boy and learns quickly. After about 10 minutes on the lunge line we went for a walk up the dirt road across from the rescue.  He did wonderful.  He waited patiently for a vehicle to go by before we stepped out onto the tarred road and was quite interested in the sound his tiny feet were making on the hottop.   The first  vehicle that went by us on the dirt road was going a bit too fast and Buff popped up in the air ,but after that he listened, watched with interest and stood very quiet while they went by him.  Of course he was being talked to and encouraged at all times.    He enjoyed his little walk ( perhaps about a half mile in all ) he needs more of this.   So, Buff is coming along good and will stay on his learning path.  He will be a very elegant little pony when he matures.

Smudge:
May 22, 2009 - Smudge had his first lunge line lesson today and did great.  He worked to the left, at a walk for about 10 minutes and tried getting away from the lunge line so, then he was made to do  a dressage exercise down the driveway and back...1 step - whoa, 2 steps - whoa, etc. up to 10 steps - whoa and back down again.  He is a smart little appy, and  did a good job, but has a very long way to go.  .  This he needs more of for a while to get his whoa down.  He was beginning to anticipate the whoa along with his steps.  So he is an intelligent one.  He did everything that was asked of him, including reaching out and touching the parked vehicles in the driveway and the front gate while cars were going by..

March 25, 2010....Jess has been working with Smudge under saddle and is doing well.  Smudge tacks up well, and is easily mounted, his thing at this time is moving forward.   He needs to go back to basics.
